Trailer: Cast Of The Seven Godsends (Raven Travel Studios)

Newly formed indie team Raven Travel Studios has released a trailer for Cast of the Seven Godsends, its tribute to ’80s run-and-gun platformers for Windows 7 and the Xbox Live Indie Games service. The gameplay here is heavily inspired by Capcom’s Ghosts’n Goblins series, in particular — GnG fans will also find the background graphics, enemy types, and magic attacks to be quite similar. The main character seems to be more agile and more easily controlled than Ghosts’n Goblins’ protagonist Arthur, though, which should provide an interesting contrast to the deliberate pacing in Capcom’s games. Cast of the Seven Godsends is set for release later this year.

Drunken Wizard took 1st place in the Build & Win Construct 2 Contest . Think Smash TV, except much, much shorter and you play a drunken wizard, attempting to stay away from home for the night because you did something terrible to your girlfriend. There are a couple of different routes you can travel to complete the game and even a secret or two. You can shoot fireballs and an additional staff can be picked up as an extra weapon. Freeware Game Pick: Rogue Moon (Ben Pettengill)

Rogue Moon is a minimalistic experience. Propel yourself from planet to planet (using the arrows keys) with the aim to reach the blue moon. As you get close enough to a planet, its gravity sucks you in and you attach to it via an energy beam. The energy you gain from this can be used for self control in between planets. If you have no energy, you may end up floating in space. The visual and audio choices that Ben has chosen for the game successfully gel together to give it an eery vibe. Locomalito has released an upgraded version of its freeware Galaga-styled shooter Verminest , replacing the original game’s monochrome graphics with a glorious 8-bit color palette. Verminest ’83 is otherwise identical to the original release, minus the 3D feature. The level of background detail has also taken a hit; Locomalito prides itself on authenticity, and the game emulates the limitations of early ’80s arcade titles. You either get color graphics or detailed backgrounds — not both! Act Soon: Shoot Many Robots Dressed as Half-Life’s Gordon Freeman

Demiurge Studios has worked quickly to release Shoot Many Robots, its run-and-gunner with RPG elements, on Windows for Steam. Valve must have had a blast playing the game, because they allowed an in-game Gordon Freeman outfit for the main character, Walter. When wearing the outfit, Portal turrets will appear in-game, too. Players will also receive “The Scrap Pack,” which includes The Chopper Bot backpack for the Medic or Pyro in Team Fortress 2. The importance to accessorize can never be overstated. I’ve been playing a local two-player campaign on XBLA for a few sessions. At times it feels slightly repetitive, with only a handful of bosses re-used through the Normal campaign. However, I enjoyed the pseudo-looting (you still have to pay for the weapons after you find them) and leveling-up aspects mixed with Metal Slug/Contra gameplay. Demiurge’s Shoot Many Robots can be pre-purchased now for $9.99 . The game goes live mid-afternoon Friday, so act soon if you want the pre-order goodies.
