Live’s most popular games in 2009 were..

Microsoft has revealed Xbox Live’s and Games for Windows Live’s best performing titles in 2009, showing the top 20 games on the services across a number of categories. Halo 3 , while beating back three games in Activision’s Call of Duty arsenal, took the top honors on the Xbox 360’s top Live titles list as the year’s most played title while its predecessor, Halo 2 , managed to do the same on the original Xbox. The summer’s hit Battlefield 1943 turned out to be the most bought Xbox Live Arcade game of the year, as the brilliantly titled I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 was the most sold Indie game.

NinjaBee shows concepts for new XBLA game, playable with Avatars

NinjaBee (makers of A Kingdom for Keflings , Band of Bugs and the underrated Outpost Kaloki X ) has announced that it’s working on a brand new title for Xbox Live Arcade, one that will allow you to play with your Mickey ear-wearing Xbox Live Avatar. There’s no actual information about the game yet (not even a title, although we know it’s not Ancients of Ooga , another NinjaBee game in progress), but as you can see from the concept art posted on its blog, there’s an airship, a cute bird and a dragon involved.

XBLA and PSN get hazardous this week

Matt Hazard’s second shot at videogame fortune and glory, Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond , will be released on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this week. The fictional industry legend and his parody-filled side-scroller will hit Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday and PlayStation Network on Thursday for 1200 Microsoft Points and $14.99, respectively; Rescuing one’s 8-bit self from an evil Russian general is not a cheap task, it appears.

Top 20 rated Xbox Live indie games closing ’09

Xbox Live Indie Games have had ratings since July of last year and, with the arrival of the new year, let’s see how the unwashed masses (who may or may not have actually played the games) rated them. As IndieGames points out, sitting pretty atop the lists for both the US and UK is The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai developer SKA Studios’ I made a game with zombies in it . Also known by its clinical title: I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 .
