Giana’s Return developer Retroguru has launched Sqrxz 3: Adventure for Love , a free side-scrolling run-and-jump game that takes the concept of “multiplatform” to new extremes. Remarkably, seventeen different versions of the game are available. Compatible platforms include Amiga OS4, AROS, Caanoo, Dingoo A320 (OpenDingux), Dreamcast, GP2x, Mac OS X, Motomagx, MorphOS, NetBSD (Intel), Pandora, PlayStation Portable (unsigned), Symbian OS Series 60, Symbian OS UIQ3, Ubuntu, Windows and Wiz. I know what you’re thinking: “What, no Mega Duck support?” I know; it sucks. Regardless, it’s still pretty darn likely that you own some sort of device capable of playing this game. Be warned, however, that the experience is specifically designed for hardcore platformer fans; project leader Shahzad Sahaib warns that the game “has a very high frustration level.” Be careful not to break your Dingoo!

The last time we took a look at Children of Liberty, there was a woeful lack of game play material available for viewing. This time around, things are a lot better. The cartoony aesthetics work almost surprisingly well in this historical, stealth-oriented platformer. While some might find themselves questioning how four unruly kids can take on an assortment of well-trained soldiers, I’m more than willing to suspend my disbelief for the duration of the experience. If you’re curious about how well the game works in practice, you can check out the alpha here.

The four-person Brisbane, Australian based Hitbox Team has released its combo-filled clean-em-up plaformer, Dustforce , on Steam for Windows. As an acrobatic janitor, players will leap and dash off walls and ceilings and traverse 50 precarious environments varying in difficulty. Dustforce has online leaderboards, online replays, and four-player local multiplayer modes like King Of The Hill and Survival for “loads of dust-cleaning fun.” Dustforce has already won the hearts of judges, earning an Honorable Mention for art at this years’ Independent Games Festival and the Grand Prize at indiePub’s Independent Developer Competition in 2010. The coming weeks will tell if it wins the hearts of consumers, too. While Dustforce is now available via Steam for $9.99 (with 10% off) for Windows only, an update for Mac and Linux is planned to come soon. Right now the team has no plans for a stand-alone version, but Desura publishing is a possibility.

Rayman: Origins is an odd little number. It’s a serious – damn serious – throwback to what games used to be. It’s an “old school” platformer if there ever was one
