We all know Activision’s Bobby Kotick as one for making bold statements. Changing that fact clearly isn’t on his new year’s resolutions list; the CEO recently spoke up on the UK government’s decision to scrap tax relief on videogame development, calling it a “terrible mistake”. He told the Telegraph: “I think it was a terrible mistake. There are so many other places that are encouraging the video games industry.” All three governments promised to keep tax relief for the videogame industry during last year’s elections. However the Coalition government formed as a result scrapped relief as one of many steps to help reduce the UK’s record budget deficit. Activision itself employs 600 developers at their offices in Slough; could these jobs now be under threat?
