Wii was easily the highest selling home console during the 2009 holiday season, NPD’s newly released sales numbers for the month of December show. The Nintendo system sold through 3.81 million units in the US — over a million more than runners-up PlayStation 3 (1.36 million) and Xbox 360 (1.31 million) put together.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata’s recent comments about a more powerful and motion enabled DS successor were “misinterpreted,” a Nintendo spokesperson has said today. Last week, Iwata was reported as saying that the new DS will have “highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing” — words that Nintendo now says Iwata never said
The next issue of GameInformer magazine will hold between its covers the first details of Bungie’s 2010 Halo effort, Halo: Reach . The publication revealed their February issue’s cover today, showing the group of Spartan soldiers last seen in December’s reveal trailer , and promises to deliver ten pages worth of information, art and screenshots from the prequel. Reach , widely expected to be the biggest title of the year, at least on Microsoft’s system, is on course for a Fall release.
It seems that Microsoft is dropping a chip from inside the Project Natal unit that handles the processing of the bone structures. The chip is being removed in favor of a software-based solution that will offload the heavy lifting onto the Xbox’s Xenon processors instead.
