THQ has announced that the development stages have been done with and that the atmospheric and frozen post-apocalyptic world of Metro 2033 is now well on its way to being manufactured. In other words, the game’s gone gold. Considering it’s supposed to be out mid-March for PC and Xbox 360, we’ll take that as a good sign
While 4A Games is refuting claims that its upcoming action game Metro 2033 uses game code from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , there are more crucial things at hand, like how publisher THQ will handle the PC release. Valve and THQ have announced that the PC version of Metro 2033 will utilize the Steamworks suite which will be “providing gamers with auto-updating, Steam Achievements, Steam support for in-game DLC, and more.” Steamworks won’t be the only notable thing about the PC version as it will also utilize DirectX11 and PhysX
Developer GSC GameWorld has apparently claimed in the Russian games media that 4A Games’ new game engine is derived from pre-launch code of GSC’s 2007 PC game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. . An accusation which 4A’s chief technology officer Oles Shishkovtsov — who was the Lead Programmer and Technology Architect on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
THQ has confirmed the release dates for Metro 2033 , the Xbox 360 and PC bound post-apocalyptic shooter from developer A4 Games. North American stores get it on March 16, and European on March 19. An exclusive weapon and four “art card” packing Limited Edition will be available for both platforms as well, with both editions available for pre-order now.
Strictly speaking, not much about Metro 2033 looks all that new; an end of the world setting littered with dank, dark corridors and various shades of brown, it sounds like action game 101, right? Give this trailer a chance however, and the intriguing plot and stunning graphics might be enough to draw you in. The game looks to challenge the likes of BioShock in terms of atmosphere it seems, and with a trailer this good, maybe, just maybe, it might be able to make a name for itself
