Modern Warfare 2 shows off the Resurgence map pack

May 29th, 2010
Original post from: That VideoGame Blog http://www.thatvideogameblog.com

In the video above, Infinity Ward man Robert Bowling takes us through a video tour of Modern Warfare 2 ’s upcoming Resurgence map pack, showing off the quintet of maps and giving pointers along the way. The line-up of new maps consists of a Disney World from hell – no, not Euro Disney – called Carnival, the largest map to date in Fuel, and the closed in Trailer Park that makes me a bit homesick. Those who have played Call of Duty 4 know what to expect on the open building complex of Vacant and the urban sprawl of Strike, but those who memorized each map’s layout should be forewarned, Infinity Ward has changed things up just a bit.

Activision announced today that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Stimulus Package” set a new Xbox Live record — clearly, mapathy had set in. According to Microsoft’s figures, the DLC pack was downloaded over one million times in 24 hours, surpassing 2.5 million units within a week. All at $15 a pop.

To recap: 2.5 million of you are totally okay with a $15 map pack so, if this happens again, we aren’t going to be there to kiss the boo-boo if it’s suddenly $20. Just so we’re on the same page.

MW2 issues haven’t affected player numbers, IW says

April 2nd, 2010
Original post from: That VideoGame Blog http://www.thatvideogameblog.com

Modern Warfare 2 may have offered quite the buggy online experience in the months following its launch but, according to Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, only a fraction of players were ever affected. Talking specifically about the care package glitch that allowed players to call in and abuse Harriers, AC-130s, Predator Missiles etc, the community man said , “No, there was no drop [in players]. Since people take this game very seriously and they play so hardcore – we do as well – you know that stuff gets a lot of attention.” Out of their 25 million players , Bowling continued, “the people who experienced those types of things and even participate in those types of things are very very small – like one per cent of our user base.” “So in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really impact the overall experience of the majority of players.”

Modern Warfare 2 ‘care package’ patch submitted to Microsoft certification

February 7th, 2010
Original post from: Joystiq Xbox http://xbox.joystiq.com

Considering the Xbox 360 received the lion’s share of Modern Warfare 2 purchases, it comes as a bit of a shock to us that the already released on PS3 and PC “care package patch” is just now being submitted to Microsoft for certification. That said, developer Infinity Ward’s community man Robert Bowling tweeted as much to Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner approximately 24 hours ago when Reiner asked about a possible release for the much anticipated fixes.

As Bowling has pointed out before (and details in this forum post on the subject), the patch is set to remedy the following (you might need a pillow for all of this pure, unbridled excitement:

  • Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized.
  • Fix for “infinite care package” exploit.
  • Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry.
  • Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s.
  • Fixes to prevent various XP hacks.

And no, there’s no date given for when it’s coming out. So stop asking. (Seriously.)
